What is Intertwined?

By definition, to be intertwined means to connect two or more things together or to unite by twining one with another. This definition is best epitomized through the closely linked bonds in my relationship with mom and other women of the family, whom I consider to be “pillars” in my life due to their crucial contributions to my uprising.

Over the years, mom and I have grown really close to each other because we’ve endured a lot of times of adversity together. In general, mom was always known to go everywhere with her two daughters, but I’ve been present during the most trying times and have also taken on the role of primary caregiver. My eldest sibling has always been attentive and provides in her own ways. However, a special bond has grown between myself and mom during the time my sister moved on with her independent life after college. Furthermore, there are also other women in my family that I’ve grown very close with that include both of my grandmothers, my aunt and godmother. These women all have served as maternal figures in my life.

The conceptual idea of “Intertwined” is meant to convey that bond of our relationship. It’s a space that will highlight how these pillars of my life have intertwined with myself over the years. A place to share a part of what has made me who I am through the life lessons acquired from my interpersonal exchanges with these women. The blog’s tagline: “She is me. I am her.” conveys the idea that we have become one unified entity. I’ve learned to stay humble and grounded through the support, values, and principles instilled in me by these pillars in my life. All of these things compose the foundations of my personality and characteristics; the woman I am today. For this reason, I feel that a large part of me is tightly interwoven with these women; taking away those characteristics would alter who I am.

In a nutshell, Intertwined: She is me. I am her., is about the closely interwoven bonds developed with the women that have become my pillars of life. These life bonds sustain me today in a world full of uncertainty and challenging times.
